02

Chords and rhythm

Essential chord shapes, transitions, strumming and steady time.

03

Melody and reading

Single-note playing, notation or tab, phrasing and ear training.

04

Songs and performance

Build a varied set, play with others and develop stage confidence.

A TYPICAL FIRST YEAR

One year, four clear stages.

This is a practical guide, not a fixed promise. Starting level, attendance, practice and individual readiness shape the exact pace.

Months 1–3

Start strong

Instrument care, open strings, first chords, pulse and short melodies.

Months 4–6

Build fluency

Smooth chord changes, strumming patterns, reading and complete songs.

Months 7–9

Make it musical

Scales, fingerstyle, expressive detail and ensemble awareness.

Months 10–12

Share and progress

Polish a balanced set and review readiness for a suitable exam pathway.

EXAM PATHWAY

Progress with purpose.

We use current official syllabus information to guide exam preparation. The teacher recommends a board, grade and timeline after understanding the student’s level, goals and learning pace.
